About Brixham Buccaneers

Founded in 2007 in the wake of David Croney’s brainchild cartoon pirate, the Brixham Buccaneers began as an amusing distraction for local traders and developed during the summer season into a full-blown, piracy-themed, visitor orientated entertainment and educational programme
.

Every Thursday became “Pirate Day” with many shops decorated with skull and cross-bones bunting and some besotted traders exercising their thespian skills by adopting pirate outfits and attitudes, much to the terror and / or delight of many visitors (depending on age, gender and inclination).
Additionally the Buccaneers organized and ran a comprehensive programme of events and activities ranging from colouring competitions to soaking pirates in the stocks,  face-painting to balloon sculpture and treasure hunts to story-telling. The core programme ran from 10a.m. until 4.30p.m. and was often augmented with visiting bands playing under the old fish quay in the late afternoon. Brixham Town Band and/or the Orpheus Choir provided a rousing finale each evening with the regular 8 p.m. summer concert.

Now firmly established as a mainstream summer attraction, plans for the 2008 season are in full swing. In addition to previous activities we shall introduce a children’s Arts & Crafts action site, pirate re-enactment theatre and more maritime attractions in association with the RNLI, the MCA and AstraZenica. Also appearing will be Cap’n Jack Sparrow of Pirates of the Carribean fame to accompany you on your trip around and across Torbay.

Kick-off this year will be at Easter from 21 March 2008, so dust off your pirate outfit, polish your Cutlass and come and join the Brixham Buccaneers at this year’s pillaging, pirating fun days.
